My Institution Font Ideas

                                         My Institution Font Ideas

My institution name is 'Rigor Mortis' which means the stiffening of the joints and muscles of a body a few hours after death. I chose this name because I thought that it worked well with my horror opening and that it fit in because my horror opening is to do with death, therefore the institution name has an instant connect with my horror movie.

Idea's For My Openings.

I don't like this idea because it has the black around it and then there is white around the skull because it doesn't look good. I think it makes it look like a three year old has put it together and it doesn't look finished and professional. I also don't like where the Rigor Mortis productions is placed because I wanted it over the whole thing but the black and the white colours didn't show in both places and I didn't want the writing red, therefore I am not going to use it.

I like this idea more because it is simple and wouldn't take up much of my time in the opening. I don't know if I would use the music or if I would use different music. I like this idea more though because it's dark and would set the mood. The font is Lucinda Bright and I like this because it is quite simple as well as being very readable. If I was to use this, I would defiantly make sure that the music faded out at the end so it didn't come to a sudden stop. The font is also similar to the ones they use horror openings that are the beginning to real horror movies. I like the idea of having something simpler and without using the logo, because I think it is easier to make and it still uses my institution and still will have effect on the audience.

Making Realistic Blood

                                Making Realistic Blood

One lesson, we made different types of realistic blood. We used different types of methods to try and create it look as realistic as possible. We were trying to make it look as realistic as a real blood splatter, as shown left, or real blood on somebody's hand.

Video Of All The Blood Making Pictures

This Is The Sped Up Video Of Us Making The Blood

I made this video faster so that it was quicker to view the making of the process that we went through to make the blood.

Method One

This is the first method we used below. We thought that this method worked really well because it looked great on the skin. The colour was almost perfect because it wasn't too red that it looked like tomato ketchup and it wasn't too dark that it looked brown.
The thickness of it was a bit too runny at first so we added a bit more golden syrup and it got a little more thicker, looking more like blood then runny red liquid.

This is the picture of the method we used.

This is the steps that we used to make the fake blood for method one. I think that the colour looks well on a photograph too, so it would look good on a video too. At one point the method told us to add something and it turned a brown colour, so we added some more red food colouring to it and it turned back to the colour we wanted it to be.

Videos For Method One

This is what the fake blood looked like when it was dripped onto a surface. I tried to drip it more then throw it down because then I could get a variety of different looks so that if I ever wanted to have someone with a nose bleed or someone who had been stabbed I would have an idea of what it looked like.

This is what the fake blood looked like when it was on someone's hand. I thought that it looked good because it drips down so that it looked like real blood. I took a photo of this because if I ever want to use this method on the skin I know what it would look like.

Method Two

This method was simpler then the first but I felt that it wasn't as good as the first one because it was wetter then the first because it was only made of red food colouring and water. The thickness was a bit runnier then the first one because it was only red food colouring and water, so the water made it really runny.

Video For Method Two

This is what it looked like when it was in the pot and I thought that it looked better in the pot then it did out of the pot. It did have a very good resemble of blood while in the pot though because it didn't look as runny.

This picture showed what it looked like when I dripped it onto the paper. It shows that when it was dripped because it was so wet it didn't drip once, it all poured out onto the paper. This meant that if I wanted a fake blood that was good for dripping, I shouldn't use this one because it didn't look realistic when it was dripped.

When it was put onto the hand, it ran off almost automatically, which isn't good because if I wanted to use it for video rather than a picture it wouldn't work as well because it would be too runny it would end up all on the surface and none on the hand.

Method Three

Method three worked well because it was quite thick and looked more realistic then method two. It worked well and was relatively easy to make. For this one I didn't have to add anymore to make it thicker or runnier which was a good point too.

Method Three Video

This was what looked like when I dripped it onto the paper. I didn't think that it looked very good when it dripped down because it was too thick when it was on the paper. I thought that if I was going to use this I wouldn't use it for it dripping off of someone.

However, when we put it onto the hand, it looked really effective because it looked like someone had deeply cut them with a knife and that blood was running out of them fast. It also had a good thickness on the skin and I had some darker bits, which could look like clots and would give a more disturbing look, if that is what I wanted.

Method Four

This method looked too much like ketchup and I don't think that I'd ever use it because it looked too unrealistic and wouldn't have given the same effect as the previous methods have.

This photo is a good example as to how it looks like ketchup. In my opinion, it looks like someone has spilt ketchup and water because the two didn't mix very well together and it ended up with water on the top and ketchup on the bottom.

Video For Method Four

Method Five

This method again looked too much like ketchup. I don't think that I would use this method either because it looked to fake and like ketchup, so it wouldn't have a great effect for the audience as they would be able to tell that it was ketchup.

These photos show the colour and what this method looks like. I can tell that this is ketchup really badly because it is the same colour as it as well as it looking like ketchup in a pot. I didn't take a picture of it on a hand because it just looked like ketchup on someone's hand.

Organisation With my Actor and Actress

Organisation With my Actor and Actress

I set up a Facebook group, shown left and right, so that I can talk to my actor and actress without trying to find them at school or text them both separately. I can then have a conversation with them and they can see what the other one says, so therefore it takes up less time to sort out dates and times that we would meet to film. It also means that if either of them have any questions they can ask them on here and then if the other one had the same question they wouldn't have to ask me and they would still know the answer. There are only three members in the group and the group is private, therefore the only people that can see what we post is the three of us.

This is the conversation that I had with my Actor, Nick Brewer. This was because I wanted to find our what dates he had free, so I could then ask Jodie. I had this conversation before I set up the Facebook group with both Jodie and Nick. I decided to keep this conversation so that I had proof that he said he could do these dates and so that when it came to writing the schedule I knew for definite what day Nick could do.

Prop List

                                         Prop List

Nick

I have one prop for Nick. This will be a kitchen knife and I will get Nick to hold it in the same hand, probably the one closest to the camera (left) but I will keep it in the same hand throughout the clips he is in. I used a kitchen knife, so that it seemed more realistic because he could have gone into the kitchen area in the asylum and stolen the knife.

Having a prop that people will recognise would mean that people can associate Nick's character with a sharp knife, like in 'A Nightmare On Elm Street', Freddy Krueger is well known for his Claw Gloves.

Although, this isn't going to be used because it could be dangerous for people to carry on them, so this is only what prop nick would have if it was a real film.

Jodie

I am not going to get Jodie's character to have a prop because I don't think that Jodie's character needs one. This is because I don't think that a victim should have a prop because they are not as important as the villain (Nick's character) because Jodie's character is going to die early on it the film, so having a prop isn't as important as Nick's character.

My Shooting Schedule

                                 My Shooting Schedule

My shooting schedule is slightly different to the ones I gave to Jodie and Nick because I added on mine the date that I need to film someone turning on the radio, which will be about three seconds long. I didn't put that on Jodie's and Nick's because I didn't want to risk them thinking that they needed to be at my house the day before we are shooting with Jodie.

Documents I Have Given my Actress and Actor

Documents I Have Given my Actress and Actor

This is the consent form that I will give to Jodie Coote, my actress, to make sure that she understands what will happen with the horror opening that she in involved with and whether she agrees to what she has to do and where the horror opening will go.

This is the consent form that I will give to Nick Brewer, my actor, to make sure that he understands what will happen with the horror opening that he in involved with and whether he agrees to what he has to do and where the horror opening will go.

This is the costume and make-up document that I will give to Jodie. I did this so she understands clearly what her costume is like and I added a picture of the make-up so that she understands that her make-up will not be a normal everyday make-up she is used to having on her face.

This is the costume and make-up document that I will give to Nick. I did this so he understands clearly what his costume is like and I added a picture of the inspired make-up look so that he understands that he will have make-up on his face and so he gets a rough idea of what the make-up will look like.

This is the document that I will give to Jodie, so that she understands what each shot will involve and what she has to do for each individual shot on both of the days that I am filming. I have added a diagram to one of the shots so that she gets a better understanding of what location I am talking about.

This is the document that I will give to Nick, so that she understands what each shot will involve and what he has to do for each individual shot on the days that I am filming. He has a shorter list then Jodie because he appears in fewer shots than she does.

This is the shooting schedule that I will give to both Nick and Jodie so that they understand what they need to bring, when they need to be at the certain locations and where we will meet. I added Jodie's day into Nick's shooting schedule so that he knows that there is going to be another filming day that he doesn't appear in the shots, but he may come if he wants to see what Jodie's shots are.

Horror Opening Font Ideas

                               Horror Opening Font Ideas

Algerian Font - This is a good font because it looks quite dated. It would suit the horror opening well because the horror opening is set in the 1930's. This font has defined edges, making it have a little bit more of a spooky look. It is a very bold font and has a white outline on some of the edges, making it look more interesting to the audience that would see it.

Bradley Hand ITC font - This is a good font to use because it looks quite edgy. This font looks like somebody has written it, maybe from the asylum, so it would fit in and have a connection with the horror movie. It looks quite dainty and fragile, which resembles the victims that he goes for. It also is a very easy to read, so the audience will know what it says.

Chiller font - This font is good to use because it represents the horror genre well. It has got that scary look about it and with some of the letters bigger then others, it looks more like somebody has written it. It could also look like 'The Drifter' has written it himself, therefore it has a instant connection with the horror movie. The spots could be spots of ink or blood of his victims. I think that I am going to go with this one.

Lucida Calligraphy font - This font is good because it is a little bit fancy as well has having that edgy look about it. It would fit in with the time period well because it has curls at the ends of the words, making them look a bit more old fashioned then some of the other fonts.

Mesquite Std font - This font again would fit in with the time period and has a Gothic style to it. On the other hand, it isn't that easy to read and for my horror opening, it wouldn't suit it as well as some of the other fonts because it is a bit too Gothic and my opening hasn't got a very Gothic theme.

Film Of All Fonts

I decided to put the font ideas that I liked into a film to see if what individual font looked like on a black background and to see if I made it into a bigger font it would give the same affect that it does when it's small. The font ideas go in the same order that I put them in above.

Evaluation Of My Preliminary Task

                       Evaluation Of My Preliminary Task

My role in this task was to direct and write the shots and script for the preliminary task. In this task, I did not act in it because I decided that I only wanted to film it, so that I knew how to film for my opening of a horror movie and so I got more familiar with different camera angles.

The location for my preliminary task was great because it had all of the facilities that I needed in one place. This meant that I didn't need to go and find a certain facility, so I didn't have to waste any of my time. The sound and speech went really well and I only had to shoot them once mostly because my actresses didn't mess around or forget their lines. There was only a couple of occasions when I had to shoot the same clip twice and this was because I didn't know whether the way Georgia reacted to Willow would look realistic, so I decided to have her react differently, so then I could pick which one looked better when I came to filming it.

The part that didn't go as well was filming the 180 degree because on the first time I did it, the tripod stopped turning for a slight second, meaning when I looked back at it, there was a jump in the clip and that didn't look very good so I decided to film it again. This will help me with my final opening because I know now to make sure that the tripod turns before I start filming. This will save me time and will make it look more professional.

One thing that I couldn't fix was in one shot Willow had her arms by her face and then in the next shot she had her arms down which doesn't look as good, but I couldn't fix it because it was already too late. This is because I didn't double check that she was still in the same position and I didn't re-film it once I knew that it was wrong. This helped me though because when I film my opening I need to make sure that if there is one clip going into another clip that the actor/actress stays in the same place.

Overall, I think this task helped me to familiarise myself with different camera angles and working with different people, one who does drama and one who doesn't. This helped me in deciding that I need to choose people who do drama, because they know how to act more and have developed their acting skills already and I now know that I have to make sure that the clips look right and if not I have to re-do them.

My Final Preliminary Task

Editing Process Of My Preliminary Task

Editing Process Of My Preliminary Task

I used a range of camera angles while doing my Preliminary Task because I thought that it looked better with a variety of camera angles, rather than one camera angle throught the whole of my Preliminary Task.

Stages Of Editing

Firstly, I added all of the correct clips I had taken into a file. I did this by clicking the 'add videos or photos' button and selected the videos that I needed. It was a longer progress then I thought it would be because I had a lot of clips that I didn't need, so I had to sort through the ones that I no longer needed. Once I had put them in a file, I put them into the correct order, so that it followed from one clip to the other.

Next, I played the first clip through and realised that at the beginning, Willow was playing with her hair and wasn't ready, so I decided to split the clip. I did this by going to the bit I wanted to split and I then I pressed the 'split' button and it spilt into two parts and I deleted the part I no longer needed. Then when I re looked at the clip, it flowed much better and it looked to much better because Willow walked through the door rather than messing around at the beginning.

Next, I split the clip just before she opened the door. I did this the same way by pressing the 'split' button and it split into two, then I deleted the second part. That meant that this clip finished just before Willow opened the door, so that the next clip would flow better from the first one because it would look like she is opening the door, rather than opening and then re opening the door.

Then, I played the next clip and realised that the clip was too long before Willow then opened the door. So I went through the same process by pressing the 'split' button and it then split in two. I deleted the part I didn't need, so when I then played that clip and the one before, it looked like she was opening the door rather then opening and than re opening.

Next, I played the next clip and heard myself and Willow talking before she started to walk, so after I had finished talking, just before she started to walk, I pressed the 'split' button and deleted the part with Willow and myself talking. This meant that it looked like Willow had walked from the door straight to where Georgia is sitting.

Then, I watched the next bit and Willow looked directly at the camera, then paused and looked at Georgia before she started to speak. I stopped before she started to talk and pressed the 'split' button so that when I played it back it went straight into her speaking. The only problem with this bit is that we then don't see Willow putting her hands down, so it looks a bit strange, but I couldn't really do much about that.

Then next clip was fine so I didn't need to change it, so I went onto the final clip and found that the last bit, after Willow had walked out, was too long. I decided to split the clip by pressing the 'split' button, so when I played it all the way through, the last section didn't drag out, whereas before I thought it had.

Finally, I changed the volume down on the first two clips, because Willow's shoes were too loud and it wasn't very nice to listen to. I did this by clicking on the clip I wanted to change the volume to and clicked the 'volume' button. I then slid the volume down till it sounded nice enough and wouldn't make anyone turn off and not watch. This meant that after the editing that I did, my Preliminary Task was completed and looked finished.

Sound Effects

I didn't add any sound effects to my Preliminary task because I felt that it didn't need any sound effects because it wouldn't have made it look better. I also didn't add any sound effects because I felt that it sounded better without the use of sound effects.

Planning For The Preliminary Task

                    Planning For The Preliminary Task

This is the planning I did for the preliminary task. I decided to go for Idea 3, Interrogation, because I thought that it would fit best with all of the camera shots and would be a good story line. When doing the preliminary task, I altered the script so that it fit better, which is why in the preliminary task the script has changed. The location and props have also changed slightly because I decided it looked better the way that I did it.

Characters

Willow Riphagen will be playing the police woman. She will be wearing a blazer with a smart top, so that she looks more formal then the criminal. This will also make her look more realistic because she isn't wearing jogging bottoms or something less formal, so it looks like she is taking her job seriously.

Georgia Hall will be playing the criminal. She will be weaing just a top, to make her look more informal and a bit more scruffy then the police woman. She will be slouched and looking more guilty then smug because she knows that she is in the wrong. She will only grunt and nod though because she doesn't want to tell the police woman that she is responsible for the crime because she doesn't want to get into trouble.

Location and Date

I filmed the preliminary task on the 12th of November, during one of my study periods that Willow and had free too. This meant that I could film for a whole hour if I wanted to, so I had lots of time to get it just right.
I used a class room that most looked like it could be an office. This meant that our preliminary task looked a little more realistic to the audience.
